From Variability to Validation

Reframing Imaging in Pulmonary Clinical Trials: If imaging is central to pulmonary disease, why isn’t it consistently trusted in clinical trials or by regulators?

Our Industry Theater session during the American Thoracic Society’s 2026 Annual Conference was a dynamic panel discussion on the future of imaging, biomarker validation, and clinical trial innovation in pulmonary diseases.

Our panel of experts – Dr. Lida Hariri, Dr. George Washko, and Dr. Martina Koziar Vašáková – examined how variability in imaging interpretation, measurement approaches, and endpoint definitions can influence clinical trial outcomes, biomarker qualification, and regulatory decision-making. The conversation focused on how imaging can be reframed as a coordinate system for disease, helping improve clinical trial design, strengthen biomarker validation, and ultimately accelerate better outcomes for patients.
